In blazing heat well over 40 degrees five incredibly gifted competitors and Jon took to the courts for the Money where your mouth and CF Tennis Academy Coaches Doubles Finals.
Having both come through incredible tiebreaks in the semis it was left to defending champion Sam and little french bloke Christophe to battle it out for the bragging rights as number 1 player amongst our team of 50!
It seemed to be heading for the tie break again when a poor service game from the frenchman left Sam serving for the title. Back came Christophe with an incredible return game taking it to love and we were taken in to a captivating tiebreak. At 4 all the decisive point of the match arrived with Christophe approaching the net only for Sam to stroke a sumptuous lob which left the frenchman scampering back in vein and it seemed like the match had gone. Two points later we announced our first time, back to back, champion in the event!
The doubles saw another hard fought battle with the Pakistan combination of Zohair and Khurram taking on the British/Ethiopian pairing of Jon and Amber.
With a fantastic display of doubles it was the euro/african team who struck early taking the break which they replicated later in the set to take the title and give Jon the glory he so needed having fluffed up the touchtennis in September!
Congratulations to all the finalists. I didn’t see the doubles as I was dragged kicking and screaming to do the Girls U14s Final but it sounded good!
