We started the day with an early morning wake-up, fueled by a healthy breakfast of fruit, cereal, and protein to energize us for the busy day ahead. The weather took a turn, bringing wind and cold, and even led to the cancellation of some early morning matches due to the tough conditions.
After a brief meeting to review videos from yesterday’s training session, we kicked off the day with a gym session. We focused on dynamic stretching, incorporating foam rolling and proprioceptive exercises to activate both body and mind. This was followed by a 45-minute cardio session with two intervals. Since the altitude here is demanding and we don’t have matches until Monday, we decided to push hard on cardio over the next two days to better adapt to the conditions.
I ran into an old acquaintance, Marco Neubau from Germany, who used to train at my academy in Barcelona. He’s now a traveling coach at a prestigious academy, and it was great to see that some of the players I worked with in the past are still deeply involved in the sport.
After the gym, we headed to the courts for a specific footwork session. We spent 45 minutes working on stances and recovery steps after serving, with no ball contact. The temperature was 5°C with strong winds—not ideal conditions—but we still managed to have a productive technical session.
Following a nice lunch, we returned to the courts for a hitting session with our doubles partner, a Romanian player known for her incredible ball speed and intensity. We tried to apply the footwork techniques from the morning session, but once again, the harsh weather made things difficult. The wind was fierce, and we even had a brief snowfall in the middle of the session.
In the afternoon, before our third on-court session, we reviewed more videos from training, focusing on footwork and serve routines. We analyzed what was going well and what needed improvement.
When we finally returned to the courts, the cold was intense, and after just 10 minutes, snow started falling again, forcing us to stop. We headed back to the gym for a core and stretching session, and I took the opportunity to fit in some cardio as well.
After a long day, it was time to relax with a light dinner of salad and fruit, and then get some much-needed rest. Tomorrow, we do it all again.
