It was a scorching day on Friday with temperatures easily hitting 40deg. This, however, didn’t prevent almost 50 children coming down to compete at the Aviation Club.
We had 3 events running over 2 age categories with our juniors having the, all too, rare opportunity to compete in doubles.
The doubles discipline is very different to that of a singles match. Team work, angles and mental toughness all become more prevalent in this faster paced event.
The 11 and under Green Ball event was mixed as the difference between the girls and boys at this stage is very small if at all. Infact it was the girls partnership of Andra and Angel who dismantled all the boys and girls on there way to the title, winning 4/2 against Come and Anthony in the Final.
The Open Junior event saw a split with the genders leaving Rene and Rosaleen a comfortable route through the round robin draw which included Green winners Andra and Angel, Una and Lucy and Runners Up Andjela and Stefania. The Final was a comfortable end to a comfortable tournament for the winners Rene and Rosaleen who also wanted, along with everyone at CF Tennis Academy, to wish sisters Andjela and Una all the very best as they return to Serbia in the summer.
The Boys event saw some outstanding play with Hercules and Cameron battling through a tough draw to meet Karan and Shushant in the Final. In what became the match of the day we saw some incredible tennis on display with Karan and Shushant eventually earning the victory 6/3.
